| What is a UCR NetID and why do I need one? |
UCR NetID is a unique identifier for each employee, faculty, or student connected with UCR. At UCR Extension, the NetID provides access to Moodle, the campus wireless network, and other campus resources. |
| Who needs a UCR NetID? |
Students enrolled in a UCR Extension course using Moodle need a NetID to access their courses. UCR Extension class instructors will need a NetID to use Moodle and may obtain a NetID to use the campus wireless network. UCR Extension students enrolled in courses which use campus services such as the wireless network may also obtain a NetID. All students enrolled in the International Education Programs need a NetID. If you are in one of the above groups, UCR Extension will send you an e-mail with the information needed to set up a UCR NetID account. Temporary NetIDs are available for conference attendees who need to use the campus wireless network. |
| What is the NetID process for students at UCR Extension? |
| I already have a NetID. Do I need a new one for a UCR Extension course? |
Once you have obtained a NetID, it remains yours indefinitely. If you already have a NetID, please do not create another one. If your NetID is inactive, you will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to reactivate it once you register for another course requiring a NetID. If you had a UCR campus NetID prior to November 2007, you can update it to the new NetID system. |
| I need help setting up my NetID. What should I do? |
Step-by-step help is available for setting up your NetID. You can also send an e-mail message to netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu to get help with the NetID process. Please describe your NetID issue and someone will get back to you within two hours from 9 am to 9 pm Monday through Friday, and 9 am - 6 pm on Saturdays. |
| I signed up for an online course but have not received an e-mail about setting up a NetID. What should I do? |
If you do not already have a NetID, you should have received an e-mail about setting one soon after you registered for your first online course (within two hours). If you have not received the e-mail, check your junk mail folder. If there's nothing in your junk mail folder, send an e-mail message to netidhelp@ucx.ucr.edu and ask to have your NetID e-mail re-sent. |
| Why can't I login to Moodle using the temporary login ID and password I received in the NetID e-mail message? |
The temporary login ID and temporary password are only used to set up the NetID. They don't provide access to Moodle. You will need to follow the instructions in the e-mail to set up your NetID before you will have access to Moodle. |
| Why can’t I login to Moodle after I've completed the NetID process and received a confirmation e-mail? |
Once you complete the NetID sign-up process, it can take up to two hours for your NetID to be added to Moodle. If you try to login at moodle.ucx.ucr.edu before your NetID is active, you will see an account profile page which appears to be a way to set up your account. It isn't and it won't provide access to Moodle. Ignore this page and wait until your NetID is active. |
| I have my NetID and I can log in at moodle.ucx.ucr.edu, but I don't see my Moodle course listed there. Where is it? |
Your Moodle course becomes available seven days prior to the course start date as listed in the UCR Extension course catalog, so you won't find it at moodle.ucx.ucr.edu until that date. |
| I registered for an online course and had to set up an account with UCR Extension. Isn't that my NetID? |
The UCR Extension account is only used to register for courses. The NetID gives you access to online courses, the campus wireless network, library resources and is a separate account. |
| Why can't I use my NetID from my workplace when it works from home? |
Check with the network administrator at your workplace to see if security settings are blocking your ability to use your NetID. |
